Our Story

Our Story One Winter Night. One Crash.
Our Lives forever changed.

Born from a crash, shaped by surgery, and sustained by hope, The Second Life Changes Ministry exists to remind others that life can change in an instant, and so can purpose. The Second Life Changes Ministry was created in one of the most unsettling seasons of our lives. After a devastating car accident left our future uncertain, we found ourselves surrounded by fear, surgery, and unanswered questions. Yet in the hospital, Jesus met us with His presence and peace. What the enemy meant for destruction, God transformed into a calling—to walk alongside others facing life-altering moments and to remind them that through Christ, healing, and hope, are possible.

In the early hours of January 26, 2005, I received a phone call that would change our lives forever. My name is Adell, and I was told that my husband, David, had been admitted to the hospital after a serious car accident. I don’t even remember the phone ringing—I was at home with our three small children, one just three years old, the other almost two years old and our third baby was still in the bassinet at 5 months old.

Shock and fear took over as I immediately called my mother, crying and unsure of what to do. Then I called his mother, and she cried too. In that moment, our future felt painfully uncertain—but God already had a plan. As His Word reminds us in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Even in the midst of fear and unanswered questions, God was calling us to trust Him, to seek Him, and to believe that hope was still ahead.

Rooted in Christ. Driven by Love.
A Ministry Born in the Storm.

During David’s time in the hospital, doctors told him he would have to face the possibility that he might never walk again. That outcome was unacceptable to him—he refused to let that be the final word. After Christ appeared to David in his hospital room, surrounded by a heavenly mist, and later as David heard the voice of God, he knew in the deepest part of his soul that he was healed and that what lay ahead was not defeat, but a trial of endurance. Through traction, surgery, and nine long months of healing marked by focus, discipline, and faith, David learned to walk again. Our ministry began quietly, through service. In 2005, David first stumbled into Mass at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette on crutches. Shortly thereafter, he began volunteering to repair vandalized statues throughout the shrine. Before long, both David and Adell began ushering at Mass and were later commissioned as Eucharistic ministers. Our service continued to grow as we began teaching CCD at our local parish—Adell with first graders and David with confirmation students. Together, we raised our three children in Catholic and Christian values, striving to live a life rooted in Christ. It was not a perfect journey by any means, but by God’s grace and mercy, we remained grounded on His solid foundation. Now, nearly two decades later, our three children are grown, and David and Adell continue to serve God and others with our lives, doing our best to bring honor and glory to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Today, our ministry thrives on sharing His love with those facing life-changing moments, reminding them that in Christ, no story is beyond redemption.

We are called every day to live like Christ as St. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 13:1-8:

1Corinthians 13: 1-8, 13 “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.”

While faith, hope and love remain, “the greatest of these is Love”

When Christ’s Love Becomes the Blueprint

1 Corinthians 12:12

“As A body is one though it has many parts and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body, so also is Christ.”

Transforming the Community Through Christ’s Love

Second Life Changes Ministry is built on the David DiCicco II philosophy of E.A.S.Y.—Encourage And Support You. But who is the you?

You are the homeless.

You are the Moms and Dads.

You are the children and the teenagers finding their way in a challenging world.

You are the priests, sisters, deacons, and lay faithful.

You are the coworkers, the neighbors, and the people we meet on the street.

You are the sick, the lonely, the shut-in, the struggling—the marginalized.

You are the ones Jesus speaks to when He says in Matthew 11:28–30:

“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

This is the heart of our ministry. It is EASY—because love, when rooted in Christ, is meant to be shared. We exist to encourage and support you.

“The Grace of The Lord Jesus Christ and the Love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.” -2 Corinthians13:13

Trust, Confidentiality, and Care

Trust and confidentiality are central to how we minister. We know that many people seeking a second chance carry shame, fear, or disappointment from past experiences. At The Second Life Changes, we strive to create spaces that are safe for honest questions, real pain, and unfinished stories. We hold confidences seriously and aim to embody the kind of love Paul describes-one that "keeps no record of wrongs," rejoices in the truth, and bears, believes, hopes, and endures all things.

Pointing Hearts to God's Enduring Love

Ultimately, The Second Life Changes exists to point people to the One whose love never fails. We recognize that spiritual gifts, knowledge, and even our best efforts are limited, but God's love, revealed in Jesus Christ, endures forever. Our prayer is that anyone who encounters this ministry would come to experience that love in a deeper way-and find, in Him, the second life their heart has been longing for.
